The “Hannibal” glacier play shown at Rettenbach Glacier, Sölden, Austria, on April 21, 2017, has hit the headlines even months before the show. In February, a huge elephant moved from Salzburg to the mountains of the Ötztal Alps. The shining white elephant 4 x 6 metre large was freed from the tiny rooms of Salzburg Festival’s Large Festival House and found a new home on 3,000 metres above sea-level.
The white elephant played a leading part in the Richard Strauss opera “The Love of Danae” i...

There are so many landmark stages, so many ‘wow’ moments on the Pioneer Mountain Bike Stage Race that it is hard to single any out, but the climb over Ben Ohau must be in the conversation and it didn’t disappoint on stage four of the race from Christchurch to Queenstown.
The climb didn’t separate Watson and Son Manuka Honey (James Williamson and Scott Lyttle) and Imparables (Ibon Zugasti and Tommi Misser, Spain) - the two strongest teams, nor did it affect the strongest individual from the 4...

WEATHER FORCES DIVERSION ON PIONEER STAGE THREE
The day dawned wet, cold and windy this morning in Fairlie, forcing Pioneer organisers into plan B mode with the 80km stage to Lake Tekapo altered to avoid the first climb out of Fairlie and over the Albury Range.
It certainly proved a popular decision amongst the 338 riders given many of them would be out on the stage for five or more hours, with the risk of the cold and in particular the high winds atop Albury too big to allow the race t...
