The elite of Indoor Skydiving showed stunning performances in the fascinating wind tunnel of Gravity Indoor Skydiving in Bahrain. 240 competitors from more than 25 countries showed their matchless skills at the 3rd FAI World Cup of Indoor Skydiving 2018 from 25 to 28 October and excited the crowd! They competed in different categories : 4 Way Formation Skydiving (Open, Female, Junior), 4 way Vertical Formation Skydiving (Open only), D2 W (Open only), Solo Freestyle (Open, Junior). In the Formation Skydiving 4-way Open category France’s Weembi team shows the most accurate and precise formation flying over the ten rounds. The mixed team with Julien Regen, Roy Janssen and 2017 World Indoor Champions Christine Malnis and Sophia Pecout have a strong performance and ease through formations like the Diamond and the Photon, beating the favoured Hayabusa team into second place. In the Vertical Formation Skydiving Open event the competitors stay either head up or head down and the dominant SDC Core team from the US really show why they are the leading Vertical team in the world. Incredible accuracy and elegantly performed formations by the experienced Dusty Hanks, Stephanie Strange, Rook Nelson and Jason Russel set the benchmark over the 10 rounds and the Americans ease to victory at the 3rd FAI World Cup of Indoor Skydiving 2018. The Dynamic 2-way Open event is a much closer affair and after a nail-biting final the Singaporian Firefly team with Kyra Poh and Yiu Xuan Choo claim a close victory. Competing in Speed and Free rounds, each flyer has a specific slot in line and they have to follow one another as they fly the designated sequences. Going into the tie-break in the final, the Singaporian teenagers only narrowly beat their French opponents and are delighted with their first major international victory outside the junior competitions. The Solo Freestyle Open event sees the athletes perform free and compulsory 1-minute routines to a music track of their choice and creativity and difficulty are awarded in this discipline. Latvia’s superstar Toms Ivans once again shows why he has been the world’s leading flyer in openair wind tunnels since 2012. Style, grace and spectacular manoeuvres see him win yet another big title and elevate the sport to new heights.
