Day 3 of the World Cup in sunny Taiba, Brazil was one that Australian James Carew is unlikely to forget in a hurry. All season long it was a neck-and-neck race between him and Matchu Lopes from Spain, which now demanded a winner in Taiba. So both riders had to win their heats in the semifinals to put pressure on the other. James Carew (AUS) had a tough start to his day of competition, struggling early on with a broken leash and later a broken board after a rough landing. Nevertheless, the Australian managed to win the heat at the end with a stylish and technically difficult 313 and thus to leave the season as World Champion for the second time in a row. Matchu Lopes (ESP) had to settle for 4th place in Taiba and saw the World Champion title pass him by. In the final of the World Cup it got exciting again and Pedro Matos (BRA) did not make it easy for the already determined World Champion. In the end, however, it was Carew again who decided the duel for me and thus also won the World Cup in Taiba.
