The 2018 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series returns to the historic Stari Most in Bosnia and Herzegovina for penultimate stop as Gary Hunt (GBR) can make it a hat trick of wins in a wide open anniversary season on September 8 England’s record-winner Hunt continued his comeback with a back-to-back victory in Copenhagen last weekend and now eyes his third win of the season at the famous old bridge in Mostar. So far in five competitions from Stari Most, three for the men and two for the women, no one has ever repeated a victory, and the 34-year-old is committed to break the embargo and defend his 2017 success. In the women’s, the battle for the King Kahekili trophy is even tighter. Three winners in as many competitions and a wildcard stirring up the top rankings naturally adds to the fanatical crowds’ excitement when the World Series returns to this iconic venue.
2018’s female winners Adriana Jimenez from Mexico, Australia’s two-time champion Rhiannan Iffland and Canadian comeback-winner Lysanne Richard hold all trumps for tightening up what has turned into one of the closest seasons ever since the introduction of the Women’s World Series in 2014. So far only the surprise wildcard from Great Britain, Jessica Macaulay, has managed two podium-finishes, and is just missing a victory; a feat that would put the 25-year-oldinto a great position leading into the final competition next month in Italy for the eagerly fought overall title. With the top title rivals Hunt and American Steven LoBue ripping up the record books, including four tens from the judges in the previous competition, the ever-increasing level of diving has reached new heights approaching the business end of the season. As both athletes have theirminds clearly set on the overall victory, the reigning champion from Mexico, Jonathan Paredes, needs another strong showing in the location of his first ever World Series win to stay in contention to defend the title.
