Mediterranean Epic 2022 - Stage 1 - Best Of

The Mediterranean Epic 2022 has started again with the ROTOR time trial, a tough day against the clock that has served to highlight the enormous level of the race in this edition . Reigning XCM World Champion Andreas Seewald and 2020 XCM World Champion Ramona Forchini took victory and the first leaders' jerseys.

The route was full of steep, technical and spectacular coastal trails that pushed the riders to their limits – the riders mastered a total of 265 km with 6100 meters of climbing. The Mediterranean Epic 2023 started with a day's time trial to get a taste of the terrain that the bikers will encounter in the coming stages. A first contact where they have been able to check that this year mud, water and humidity will be part of some sections of the route. The 19 km route with more than 600 metres of elevation change took the participants from the Torre del Rey de Oropesa del Mar, at sea level, to the Oropesa antennas, more than 400 metres above sea level.

The group that was to fight for the stage at the end consisted of Georg Egger, Martin Frey (Singer Racing Team), Martin Stosek (Canyon Northwave), Marc Stutzman (Canyon Northwave), Andreas Seewald (Canyon Northwave), Krzysztof Lukasik (JBG2 Cryospace) and Wout Alleman (Wilier-Pirelli). Andreas Seewald started in the overall leader's jersey but could not repeat his performance from the day before. The Mediterranean Epic 2023 returned to Oropesa del Mar for the longest stage in its history. A total of 104 km with 2,200 metres of altitude and a long list of trails and technical sections put the riders to the test.

The 2nd stage of the Mediterranean Epic 2023 was, with 80 kilometres and 2,150 metres of altitude, the second longest stage in the history of the race and probably the one that could be called the queen stage in terms of toughness.
