Despite howling winds, pouring rain and freezing cold temperatures, it is the surf that takes center stage on this fifth day of competition at the O’Neill Cold Water Classic Scotland. Jarrad Howse tells us about the wild weather in Thurso East, but the swell increases to 4-5 foot and they manage to get through 22 Heats. In Heat 2 of Round 48 we see Blake Thornton (AUS), last year’s CWC series champ, and Shaun Joubert (ZAF) progress through in these freezing conditions. With solid and stylish...

Three meter swell, strong offshore winds and right handers peeling almost all the way to the beach from way out to sea provides the perfect platform for some of the most talented young surfers in the world to showcase their skills. In some of the best conditions this competition has seen so far, Stuart Kennedy takes out the 2010 O’Neill Cold Water Classic Tasmania in emphatic style with the highest combined heat total of the event. The 20 year old from Lennox Head, Australia scores 18 points...

The quarterfinalists of the O’Neill Cold Water Classic are decided today in a solid 3 meter swell, light offshore winds and bright Tasmanian sunshine. Surfing’s young talents choose this moment in the wilds of Tasmania to make their mark. Jarrad tells us about the highlights of day 5. It’s a day of upsets and mayhem. Current World Number 2 Jordy Smith snaps his board in his heat and leaves Marco Giorgi (URY) the victory. Royden Bryson (ZAF) takes down Shaun Cansdell (AUS) and moves through to...

Jarrad Howse fills us in about the highlight of the Round of 48, on the event’s 4th day. Wild weather with strong winds and heavy rain make it difficult for the pros, with Bobby Martinez (USA) and Corey Lopez (USA) being eliminated. In defiance of the difficult conditions at lighthouse beach Stuart Kennedy (AUS) and Joel Centeio (HAW) progressed through to Round of 24. Heath Joske, with a spectacular “air reverse”, and his good friend Jayke Sharp (AUS) also make it to the next round. Current...

Jarrad, who finished runner up last year in Tasmania is keen to do well again. He gets his van set up for the night to catch some early sleep. The next morning he shows us how he prepares for a heat. First of all he chooses the right wetsuit for the conditions, waxes his board and has some breakfast. To get psyched for his heat he listens to some music before he paddles out. He is pretty disappointed that he didn’t pass through his heat, but looks forward to his chance in Scotland.

Jarrad Howse tells us about the highlights of Day 3 in Tasmania. This is a day of two to three meter waves, offshore winds and even clear blue skies and sunshine. These were not typical Cold Water Classic conditions as the competition ploughed through the round of 96 and into the first four heats of the round of 48. Bobby Martinez (USA) makes his 1st appearance at the Cold Water Classic Series and makes the most of the conditions on offer. Jordy Smith, despite still battling the flu, paddled...

Marko Grilc has won the ONeill Evolution slopestyle final in emphatic style with a run containing a double backflip, a double cork 1080 and a 5/0 backflip off the up-box at the end. After an awesome first run of the finals for which he was awarded a score of 93.50, Marko was unable to follow it up on his next two runs. I was tryin...

Despite nailing a run of a frontside 540, backside 900, frontside 1080 and a cab double cork 1080, Iouri arrived at the bottom of the halfpipe in frustration.

The rock has the texture of ingrain wallpaper yet Beat "free climbed" the 40-meter vertical face relying only on "clean" protection, i.e. cams and stoppers. "Principle Hope" ranks as one of the hardest naturally protected climbs in the world.
