Directly east of Tulbagh lies an old wagon trail over the Witzenberg mountain range which veterans of the 2010 and 2013 Absa Cape Epics will remember well. On Stage 2 of the 2016 Absa Cape Epic riders traverse it twice – going up the steep side with portage sections on the way into the Witzenberg Valley and then on the way back as they descend back into Tulbagh towards the finish.

When Robyn de Groot and Jennie Stenerhag of Team Ascendis Health crossed the finish line first in a time of 5:22.18,4 on Stage 1 of the Absa Cape Epic, the most surprised people at Saronsberg Wine Estate were the two of them.

The third and final stage on Sunday was again greeted with fantastic weather and provided for excellent riding conditions. The race started in the promenade in Gstaad.
